Abstract

Social media is ubiquitous in today’s culture, and the occupational health and safety (OHS) environment is no exception. Used to document various social phenomena, the Instagram platform could allow data collection that is otherwise difficult to access in more formal research contexts where field observations are complex, such as in emergency response contexts. Despite the limited number of studies on using this platform, especially when applied to first responders, research shows various advantages related to using social networks in preventing and promoting OHS. This article aims to identify the opportunities that the Instagram platform represents for the purposes of prevention and promotion of OHS, and to explore the potential limits of its use in the working world. Further research is needed both methodologically and in terms of use to frame this new approach.
