The last 50 years have seen major changes in the academic world. This is particularly the case for cartography. Whether on the teaching or research side; the progress made since the University of Quebec at Chicoutimi (UQAC) began its activities in 1969 testifies to several aspects of this question. During this period took shape the theory of cartographic communication, and were developed the tools and techniques,
especially with the arrival of the computer. It has been possible to analyze the characteristics and nuances of geographical space, and since the practice of cartography has become widespread and of influence in other disciplinary fields. Similarly, its teaching has been the subject of a revolution, particularly with the advent of computers and the Web. It is interesting to read the testimony of a geographer, pro-fessor of cartography, who was involved in these transformations and was able to apply them in the development of the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region.
