The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted governance issues within healthcare organizations in Quebec (Canada). It also speeded up the adoption of collaborative governance models, integrating healthcare professionals and patients into the decision-making process. This exploratory qualitative case study, based on semi-structured interviews (n=8), aimed to: 1. define what collaborative governance was or still is during and after the COVID-19 pandemic in a healthcare institution in Quebec; and 2. understand the types of initiatives and issues that facilitate or limit the implementation and sustainability of collaborative governance. This study follows a first wave of interviews (n=12) conducted in 2020 for a related project that allowed a better understanding of the collaborative governance response to the COVID 19 crisis by healthcare organizations (Gabet et al., 2023). It emphasizes the importance of strong leadership and intersectoral collaboration, while warning of a potential drift toward practices that could undermine its original objective. It seems necessary to clarify and share the meaning of this collaborative governance to ensure that it remains well-suited to the needs of the healthcare staffs and the communities.
