Abstract

The well-being of managers is a current topic, given their influence on a large number of people and the social, economic and political issues involved. We wish to establish the factors favouring their well-being. Some previous work has provided possible solutions by focusing on the following elements: stress factors among managers and the means they can set up to counter them; measures they can implement to alleviate work-family conflicts; moderating effect of managers’ emotional well-being related to their job and their job satisfaction; and well-being at work, the factors promoting the well-being, and the strategies mitigating the compromises between the different facets of well-being and favouring synergies between them. However, certain results from the literature were in contradiction with previous work and none provided, in our opinion, an exhaustive framework of factors promoting the well-being of managers. We were able to establish two additional factors promoting psychological well-being: staffing level and technology. Managers working in the financial field can therefore favour their well-being in three ways: psychologically, physically or socially. An improvement in stress and mental health issues in the workplace would benefit society and reach many people, that is the practical contribution of our research.
